This is a New Year's party with the classmates of Thorfinn's English conversation class . Mr. and Mrs. Kitashima invited us to their home. There were plenty of delicious dishes. I like Akita's hot pot, Gyoza with Korean pickle, and Kakuni, boiled thick cubes of pork. The hot pot was made by turkey, not chicken. It's very good taste. Sorry no photos. I like Damakomochi, rice balls, than Kiritanpo, rice sticks. All dishes were very delicious.
We enjoyed chatting and watching a video. We talked in Japanese because our teacher speaks Japanese very well. The topics about dancing and skating also the sprite of sports were very interesting. It is important to continue something you like for a long term.
When I checked a watch, it passed about five hours. Thank you for your inviting. I fully enjoyed today. See you soon at the class.
The Byrne family moved to Australia today. When Steve came to Japan up to 10 years ago, he had only two items: a backpack and a guitar. Today he went back to his country with his wife and three kids. His car and about 150 boxes of goods were shipped by ferry. It was really hard work for them of this international moving. Australia is the summer vacation season now. They will enjoy long vacation until the new-year days. I would like to visit to his new house which will be built in two years.
If you want to go to Australia for staying, you can contact with him from here. His homestay business will be continued in Perth. He can support your various types of staying from Perth.
A sixteen-year-old high school student came to our English class today. His name is Adrian. He is an exchange student from Shawnee, Oklahoma. Shawnee is a sister city of Nikaho. In Shawnee, there is a factory of TDK. This is the reason of the relationship. Adrian has been to Japan three times. This time his visiting is private, supported by our teacher in this class. He likes Japan and Japanese culture. Especially, he likes Japanese anime. He said "I was an otaku." He bought a Nintendo DS yesterday. He likes Akita better than Tokyo because Akita's nature is very beautiful like Oklahoma. He wants to come to Japan to be an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher). This is his future dream. I think it's a good dream. He likes tennis and debate. His high school has a debate class - 50 minutes every day. I think this is a big educational gap between Japan and America. The education of Japan is only knowledge and understanding. I think it should change for the future of Japan. Their debate topics are very difficult, for example, politics, social security, etc. Adrian knows about Japan's current prime minister. He likes the former prime minister. He does not like the current US president. I don't like him either because he started the Iraq War and refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol. I like the former voice president in the USA. At the break time we took the following picture. I will go to Orlando, Florida next month. He said Orlando is a good place. I think he will be a good ALT. And I am looking forward to meeting him again in Akita. It was very fun for me to talk with him today.
